In 2018, I graduated law school and started working for one of the biggest law firms in Denmark. To me,  this job was a reward for my hard work in law school.  


I quickly noticed that something wasn’t right. I was working hard, but struggled to keep up and take care of my personal life at the same time. 


After a couple of months, I got a concussion and went on sick leave. I felt so guilty for not working. I used to work out at the gym 5-6 times a week doing hard core fitness stuff, but my concussion forced me to slow down. 


I started doing a bit of yoga at home behind YouTube. At the time, I didn’t understand what it meant to notice your feelings or “to check in with yourself” as the yogis talk about. 


Back at work a few months later, I was asked to handle my first court case. My world collapsed. I was already so stressed out with my daily work and now I had to prepare a court case on my own with no help. I might add here that I specialised in commercial contracts, so litigation was totally out of my comfort zone. 


Guess what? I went on sick leave again. Only this time, my doctor diagnosed me with burnout, anxiety and mild depression. I felt bad for not working, so I went back to work 4 days later… I kept working even though I felt horrible and had no energy. When Covid hit in March 2020, I was exhausted to say the least. But working from home helped me regain some energy so I could evaluate my situation. 


Now you may be thinking: Where does yoga fit into all of this? During the lockdown, I finally had time to dive deeper into my yoga practice and decided to go on my first yoga retreat all by myself (SCARY!) in Greece. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. It turned my life around. 


I met teachers who understood me. They treated me with daily yoga practices and yoga therapy suited for my situation and after a week, I felt renewed. I noticed an emotion for the first time in a veeery long time. 


During the retreat, I also landed a new job as an inhouse legal counsel with a startup. This had been my actual dream job during law school, so it seemed like everything was falling into place. I started my job while deepening my yoga practice and slowly I began to notice a balance between my work life and personal life. 


Less than a year into this new life, I was fired. The company I worked for went into a massive crisis and most employees were made redundant from one day to the next. So here I was… Finally settled into my new and amazing life and then it was all taken away from me again. I felt like I had to start all over. 


Only this time, I was balanced. I had a strong yoga practice and I knew exactly how to stay calm during a storm like that. 


It took me less than a week from being fired until I had landed a new and better job. I went back to Greece to complete my 200 hour yoga teacher training to reset between the two jobs. 


As I returned home, I was ready to settle into my third legal job, but this time I knew exactly how I wanted my everyday life to look like while passing the bar and building experience as a corporate lawyer and yoga teacher. 


Today, I’m working and living in Greece as a freelance lawyer, yoga teacher and online business owner. I'm all about interesting work projects, flexible working hours, freedom to work from anywhere and plenty of time to create a personal life with room for yoga and movement, learning new skills and exploring the world - all of this WITHOUT feeling overwhelmed, burned out or anxious. 


If I could get one wish, it would be that all women get to create a professional and personal life that doesn’t come at the cost of pain, burnout and anxiety. I want you to learn to take care of yourself so that you can become the thriving professional that you were meant to be.
